What causes pelvic pain and blood clots before a period?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing intense pain in my lower right abdomen and pelvic area for over a week. The pain comes and goes, but when it hits, it's quite severe. Along with the pain, I also experience cramping and pass small blood clots.

My period is expected in seven days, but I have missed two birth control pills in a row. Additionally, I have a slight fever with chills. I dislike going to the doctor for what seems like nothing, but this does not feel right.

Please guide.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

It is concerning to hear about your symptoms. I recommend you take a urine pregnancy test as soon as possible. If the result shows even a slight positive, please seek medical attention immediately, as it could indicate a potential ectopic pregnancy, which requires swift intervention.

Additionally, if you are experiencing vomiting and fever, these could be signs of a serious condition such as appendicitis. Should the pregnancy test come back negative, it is advisable to get an abdominal ultrasound to rule out any issues.

In the case of severe pain, do not hesitate to go to the hospital. Your body deserves proper care, and the sooner you get help, the better your chances are for recovery. Remember, it is crucial to act wisely and promptly when faced with health concerns. Stay safe and take care of yourself.

I hope I have addressed all of your questions and concerns. Please follow up whenever needed.

Thank you.
