Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I recently had a sexual encounter with a stranger, and it was somewhat rough. After the encounter, my penis felt sore, and I noticed a small amount of blood on the outside.
Now, three days later, it is still sore and swollen, and there is a slight mucous buildup on the outside. However, I do not have any pain or discomfort while urinating. What could be causing this?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I am sorry you are dealing with this; that sounds uncomfortable and understandably worrying after a rough encounter. Based on what you describe, the most likely cause is a local injury, such as friction burns, small tears, or irritation to the skin of the penis, especially since you noticed minor bleeding right after.
Swelling and soreness can persist for a few days with this kind of trauma. The mucous-like buildup you are seeing could be part of the normal healing process or mild inflammation, but given the sexual contact with a new partner, infections such as balanitis (inflammation of the head of the penis) or a sexually transmitted infection like chlamydia or gonorrhea also need to be considered, even if urination is not painful right now.
If symptoms persist beyond a few more days, worsen, or if you notice discharge from the urethra, fever, or increased redness, it would be important to get checked in person and consider STI (sexually transmitted infections) testing.
In the meantime, keep the area clean with gentle washing, avoid further friction or sexual activity until healed, and wear loose clothing. If you are comfortable, you can share a clear photo of the affected area so I can give a more specific assessment.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Regards.
