Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have severe pain in the right tonsil (I have always had tonsils), and it has also enlarged (unlike the left one). There is no change of color; it looks just like the left one except it is more prominent. I also have pain in the right jaw (the gum over the wisdom tooth to be precise i.e., pericoronitis) and right cheek. I have had pain while swallowing in tonsils before, but Mox 500 mg always took care of it within a day or two. It is my first time having a problem in just one of the tonsils and not both. I have been taking Mox 500 mg, Septilin tablets, Crocin, and some home remedies like salt water gargling and honey for the last four days, but there is no improvement. My mouth is really dry, and the pain is at the peak when I have freshly woken up, and while swallowing (it feels like a painful lump), I also have bad taste or breath in my mouth. It has been four to five days with no sign of improvement despite medication, probably only worsening. Please help I am dying of pain.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As from your history, the leading cause of the pain seems to be from pericoronitis; it will take time to heal. And for enlarged right tonsil, you do not have to worry for now as size can be asymmetrical; if the tonsil enlarges more progressively, then you have to visit the ENT clinic. Treatment: 1) Continue the same treatment and add the following medication. 2) Tablet Paracetamol and Ibuprofen one tablet three times a day for three days, then whenever you will have pain. 3) Tab Metron (Metronidazole) 400 mg three times a day for five days. 4) Gargle with Betadine (Povidone-iodine) 1% three to five times a day mixed with warm water for seven days. Consume a soft diet. If it does not improve or deteriorates, visit the dental clinic. I hope this will help you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
