Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 19 years old. My wisdom teeth are growing. Next to my left bottom wisdom tooth, there is a little bump. It is not super painful but hurts when I open my mouth. It is a little swollen and looks infected. I am not sure if it is an abscess or something else.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I saw the photo you have attached (attachment removed for patient identity protection). Your wisdom tooth seems to have well erupted in its position. It has pushed the surrounding gums to make themselves pop out comfortably. It is not an abscess near your wisdom tooth but a cheek bite. When your upper last back tooth and the lower wisdom tooth contacts, your inner cheek muscles slightly get between them, causing a cheek bite. Your cheek bite resolves by itself. However, I advise you to visit your nearby dentist to slightly grind the teeth interfering with the cheek muscles. Also, the surrounding gums might have been sore, which would be the reason for mild pain. To get rid of it, gargle your mouth with lukewarm salt water thrice a day and maintain good oral hygiene. Do not brush aggressively or rub salt over the gums. This will worsen the situation.

Thank you.
