Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My baby is of 9 months, and he is having seizures. Doctor has recommended him medicines like Omnacortil forte 3 ml four times a day, Valparin 3 ml twice a day, and Lonazep once a day. After taking this for almost 20 days, the seizure episodes are still not yet stopped, and recently we have noticed whole sleeping. He is swaying so much on his head. Can you suggest what is happening and if the medication is correct? His weight is 9 kg.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please note that children with periventricular leukomalacia do have a lot of seizures and also suffer from reflux. It is very important to distinguish between these two. I would suggest the following changes.

1. Please take a video of the seizures while they are happening and show it to a pediatric neurologist to ensure that these are seizures and not reflux.

2. If at all these are genuinely seizures, I would recommend starting the child on Levipil and gradually taper off Valparin and Lonazep, but after physical consultation with a pediatric neurologist.

3. If all of the supposed seizures are reflux episodes, you will need to start the child on Rantac and Perinorm and keep the child at a reflux angle of 25 to 30 degrees at the hip level from the ground.

4. I am unsure why the Omnacortil forte has been started.

Initial (starting) doses of the medications being taken by you for 9 kg child:

1. Syrup. Omnacortil forte (15 mg/5 ml) 3 ml twice a day.

2. Syrup. Valparin (200 mg/5 ml) 3 ml twice a day.

3. Lonazep (0.25 mg) one tablet once a day.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
