How to effectively manage chronic pharyngitis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a raspy throat, occasional dry cough, sinusitis, and post-nasal drip for most of my life. Recently, this throat condition has worsened, evolving into an intermittent dry cough. I also experience a persistent tickling or irritation deep in my throat, which feels like inflammation. I visited a healthcare center, and they recommended treating it with Loratadine and Fluticasone. I have never experienced such prolonged symptoms before. I began taking the medications about two weeks ago, and there have been some better days, but the symptoms are worse in the morning.

Is it possible for this to occur if it has not happened before?

Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You appear to have chronic pharyngitis, which is likely secondary to post-nasal drip. This condition may be related to a long-standing allergy, with household dust being a common culprit. It would be beneficial to frequently change your curtains and doormats and to avoid pollen and other allergens. For now, you can continue taking Loratadine 10 mg. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
