What are the side effects of Qsymia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been on Qsymia for a while now for weight loss. But I am not seeing the results as I expected. Lost some weight at first, but now it feels like I am stuck. Thinking about switching to a different medicine, but I am not sure which one is better. Please suggest what the best option is right now for weight management. I also have some bad side effects from Qsymia, like feeling dizzy sometimes and having a dry mouth all the time. Are those normal? Do other medicines have fewer side effects? Also, can I take these medications long-term, or do I need to stop at some point? Please suggest.

  1. Numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or face.

  2. Mood changes, including depression.

  3. Trouble sleeping, concentration, memory, and speech difficulties.

  4. Metabolic acidosis causes bone problems, kidney stones, and growth problems in children.
