How to manage phimosis and bump on the penis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have phimosis and a bump on my penis. I am worried that I will get cancer, and want to know the symptoms of that. I chose a foreskin stretching ring to expand the skin for phimosis. Is this the best treatment for it? Also, if my penis is erect, it is difficult to pull back. However, if my penis is normal, I can pull back the foreskin. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to iCliniq!

I am here to provide an expert opinion on your medical issues.

Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin of the penis is too tight and cannot be retracted easily over the glans (head) of the penis. It is common in young boys and usually resolves with age. However, if you are experiencing discomfort or difficulty, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for proper assessment and treatment. The foreskin stretching ring might help in some cases, but it is best to consult a doctor before trying it.

Penile bumps: It is essential to know the exact type of bump you have on your penis. Some common types include pearly penile papules (harmless bumps seen on the penis), sebaceous cysts (a slow-growing non-cancerous swelling under the skin), or genital warts (small bumps on the genitals caused by sexually transmitted infections). If you are concerned about cancer, it is unlikely, as penile cancer (cancer in the penis) usually presents with other symptoms, like a sore that does not heal, a growth or lump, or redness or irritation that persists. It is crucial to consult a doctor for a proper examination and diagnosis.

Erection and foreskin retraction: It is normal for some individuals to have difficulty retracting the foreskin during an erection. However, if you can retract it when your penis is in a flaccid state, it is likely within the normal range. If you have concerns or discomfort, consult a healthcare professional for advice. Remember, seeking professional medical advice is crucial for addressing your concerns accurately and receiving appropriate treatment if needed.

I hope this information helps provide some insight into your symptoms.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you.
