What causes my 2-year-old's pilomatrixoma to reappear despite surgery?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 2-year-old daughter had surgery to remove a pilomatrixoma, seven months ago. However, it seems to have reappeared in the same location. I am concerned that it might not have been completely removed. I am apprehensive about another surgery, especially with full anesthesia. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Regarding your daughter's unsuccessful surgery, it appears the operation was not performed correctly. My advice is not to proceed with another operation. Instead, I suggest using a topical treatment like Podophyllin (cytotoxic substance derived from podophyllum peltatum and podophyllum hexandrum) on her skin.

I hope this helps.

For further inquiries, feel free to consult me at icliniq.com.

Thank you.
