Pilomatricoma or pilomatrixoma is a rare and harmless tumor that occurs on the hair follicle and is derived from hair matrix cells. It is mainly found in children and is caused due to mutation in the hair matrix cell. They occur on the head or neck, are tender on touching, sometimes white or red in color, are around 5 to 10 mm (millimeter) in size, and can grow slowly for years on the same spot.
