Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 25-year-old female. I got an untreated pilonidal cyst since childhood. I was hesitant to tell my parents. Now it has grown, and I have three holes down my spine between my buttocks. I keep it very clean though but I need to get rid of it . I noticed that the cyst subsides during my periods. A few years back, I have pus accumulated in it and removed myself. Later that has not gone worse yet. I need to know the complications of a pilonidal cyst.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The definitive treatment for pilonidal sinus is surgery. There are some creams available, but their results are not as good as surgery. You can proceed for a surgery consultation in case the sinuses are bothering you, or there is repeated pus or blood coming out from them. If left untreated, there is a chance that the sinus tract will become larger and require more extensive surgery.

The Probable causes

Long hours of sitting, hairy area.

Investigations to be done

Sinogram.

Treatment plan

Excision and flap.

Preventive measures

Keep the area dry and clean. Remove hairs using hair removal creams.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
