This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 44-year-old male, and I have noticed what looks like a small bump or pimple at the back of my throat. Could you advise me on what this might be and whether I should be concerned?

Please help.

Thank you for your guidance.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

A pimple-like bump at the back of the throat after a cold is most often related to temporary inflammation of the lymphoid tissue, sometimes referred to as cobblestone throat. This typically occurs after viral infections such as the common cold or flu and is caused by postnasal drip irritating the throat.

If the bump lasts longer than two weeks or is accompanied by symptoms such as ear pain, it would be best to seek medical evaluation.

Helpful self-care measures include warm saltwater gargles, staying well-hydrated, soothing the throat with warm tea or honey, avoiding irritants like smoking or spicy foods, and using saline nasal rinses if postnasal drip continues.

If the bump persists, increases in size, or becomes more bothersome, a throat examination or laryngoscopy may be recommended to rule out conditions such as chronic infection or, rarely, other abnormalities.

I hope the information helps.

Kindly revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
