How to get rid of the eyelash crusts that build up after an eye infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

For the last few months, my right eye has been itchy red, and crust built up on the eyelashes. I went to the emergency room, and they said it was just pink eye. So all of that held, but a stye popped up and disappeared after that. The crust build-up is still on my eyelash. I try to pull it off, and my eyelashes come off. I have searched on the internet and did not find anything satisfactory. No treatment, just a warm rag here and there. What can I do to get rid of this? Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Anything without examination is difficult to say. However, yes, it may be a lashes infection known as blepharitis, or it may be due to pink eye or may be dry eye. Try sending a picture including both eyes if possible. You can try using warm compresses till you visit an ophthalmologist for an examination. Also, get your refraction done. Do you have taken any treatment for this? Thank you.
