How do I safely manage my irregular periods and hair loss?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having irregular periods occurring once every two months. During my last cycle, the bleeding was unusually heavy, so I consulted the doctor and was prescribed medication. I continued the treatment until last month and stopped it as per the doctor's advice. Now, I am experiencing huge hair loss.

Kindly advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and will surely help you. Kindly share the details of the medicine and dosage. Hair loss can be due to several reasons, including medications like the one you are experiencing. Also, since you have irregular periods, it may be due to PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome), as you have hair loss and your weight is a little bit high. Are you having acne and hair growth on the face? Do not worry. There is no need to panic. However, please share the details so that I can help you better. In the meantime, I recommend:

  • Stop aerated drinks.
  • Stop fatty foods.
  • Have an active lifestyle.
  • Eat well, sleep well, and stay active.
  • Try reducing your weight by 10%.

Please don't panic since most causes of hair loss related to hormonal imbalance are reversible with proper treatment and lifestyle changes. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
