Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Over the past six months, I have been experiencing severe hair fall, acne, sudden weight gain, and irregular periods. I am a 28-year-old unmarried woman and consulted a gynecologist who advised an ultrasound scan. The results showed polycystic cysts in both ovaries. I am worried about the seriousness of this condition, whether it is curable, and if there are measures I can take to reduce any complications. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I have gone through your history and I can understand your concern. Menstrual irregularities in your case, could be due to hormonal imbalance caused by PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). PCOS is an endocrinal disorder in which hormonal imbalances will be there due to cysts in the ovary, and you may have facial hair growth and weight gain. As it is a lifestyle disease, you have to change your lifestyle, eat a high-protein diet with lots of vegetables and fruits and exercise regularly.

Get your hemoglobin, HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin), and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) levels checked. No need to worry about it and I suggest you take Progesterone for withdrawal bleeding.

Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank y
