Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was diagnosed with PCOS four years ago. I used to get irregular periods, hair thinning, and body and facial hair growth post lockdown. I want to know what exactly is the root cause of this. What test is required to know about it further? Please give me your opinion on this.

Regards.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern. The signs you have are classic symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The root cause of this is excess production of androgens produced by ovaries and then small cysts that get formed around ovaries. You will be required to get blood tests done to ascertain the hormone levels in your blood and a thyroid test. You would also be required to obtain a pelvic examination and a pelvic ultrasound by a gynecologist.

In the meantime, I would recommend you:-

1. To reduce 10 percent of your weight.

2. To stop aerated drinks.

3. To stop fatty foods.

4. To have an active lifestyle.

4. To brisk walk for one hour every day.

I understand that during lockdown probably your lifestyle has changed, and as a result the problem has surfaced again.

I hope this helps you.

Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
