What causes problems with penis size and erections?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 4.9 feet tall and weigh 176 pounds. I have a few concerns about my penis. When not aroused, it is about 0.79 inches, but during arousal, it grows to about 3.15 inches. However, it does not become fully firm or "stand" properly. Also, I have noticed that the opening (meatus) is partially covered or connected by tissue, and touching the upper part causes mild pain.
Should I be concerned about this? Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I appreciate that you are paying close attention to the changes in your body. You are doing the right thing by seeking medical advice.
Based on the symptoms you have described, it is like you may be experiencing the following:
-
Acute balanitis: It is a condition when the head of the penis becomes suddenly red, swollen, and sore. It is usually caused by an infection, poor hygiene, irritation, or an allergic reaction. It might hurt, itch, or cause a burning feeling, especially when peeing or touching the area. Sometimes, there can also be a bad smell or discharge. It is treatable, especially when identified early, usually with medicine and keeping the area clean.
-
Accompanied by phimosis: Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin (the skin covering the tip of the penis) cannot be pulled back easily. This is common in young boys, and it often gets better on its own as they grow older. In adults or teens, it can sometimes cause discomfort, pain, or trouble cleaning the area, especially if the foreskin becomes too tight. In some cases, it might lead to swelling, irritation, or infections if not cleaned properly.
Mild cases usually do not need treatment, but if it causes pain, infections, or difficulty urinating, a doctor may recommend creams, stretching exercises, or minor procedures to help.
Recommended Treatment:
-
Co-Amoxiclav 625 mg (Amoxicillin (500 mg) and Clavulanic acid (125 mg)), take two tablets orally twice a day for one week.
-
Warm water soaks are applied to the penile area twice daily to reduce inflammation and discomfort.
If you are currently taking any other medications, please pause them temporarily unless they are essential. Let me know if you are unsure which medications to stop.
If your symptoms worsen or persist, or if you experience any additional concerns, I recommend scheduling a follow-up consultation through chat, phone, or video. This will allow us to monitor your progress and adjust treatment if needed.
I hope this helps.
Please revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
