Would a gum bruise caused by trauma during a tooth extraction heal on its own

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a question regarding my gums. Two to three months ago, I went to a dentist to get a cavity pulled out, and while he was using the instrument, he accidentally hit my front teeth with full force. It hurt a lot. The sides (where the cavity was) were numb and still hurt. Later, I realized a bruise on my gum had formed. It is just a spot over three teeth on the right front part of my gum. It does not hurt; if it did, the pain is barely noticeable. But by now, I do not know whether it is a bruise. I have had it for way too long.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welocme to icliniq.com.

I have read through your query and the relevant details and looked at the picture you have attached (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). If it had happened during the dental treatment, it should heal independently as the gums can heal naturally. You can give ice compression in that region. But if you have continuous pain, I suspect infection in the front teeth.

Thank you.
