Is my shooting pain near the stitched area in the perineum related to a suture infection?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am the mother of a two-month-old baby. I had a normal delivery, but for the past two days, I have been experiencing sharp or shooting pain near the stitched area in the perineum. It occurs on and off on both sides. Two months after giving birth, I experienced slight bleeding, and I am having difficulty distinguishing whether it is postpartum bleeding or the start of my period. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am glad you choose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern.

According to your description, there is a possibility of having an infection. You should keep the area clean and dry, change your undergarments twice a day, and wash your genitals with gentle cleansers. After urination, make sure to wash your genitals with water and dry them properly. Please provide some additional details so that I can assist you more effectively.

  1. Did you experience any fever in the past few days?
  2. Is there any discharge from your vagina or the suture site?
  3. Are you experiencing any urinary-related complaints, such as burning during urination or increased frequency of urination?

Based on your answers, I can prescribe antibiotics if necessary.

I hope this information is helpful. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.
