Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 24-year-old woman. Since giving birth, I have been experiencing feelings of worthlessness, only frequent thoughts of death, fear of hatred over my baby and myself at times, loss of control and temper, and low self-confidence in my role as a mother and as a wife to my husband. Is it possible that it could be an indication of a mental disorder? Hoping to have a quick reply.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

In my opinion, you are probably undergoing postpartum depression, which may be postpartum blues, for which a detailed assessment is needed to confirm the diagnosis. After delivery, there is a tremendous change in the level of hormones in the body, which lead to more behavior and thought changes. You need to understand that these things are not in your control, and even after a month, if you continue to feel this way, I suggest you contact a psychiatrist. If not treated on time, postpartum depression can also be life-threatening to your child and you.

If you need further help, you can always ask.

I hope you get better soon.

Regards.
