Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

During our private space, a small amount of semen fell around my partner's vagina. She had just finished her period the previous day. There was no physical intercourse. She even consumed an emergency contraceptive pill within 30 hours of the above sequence. Is there any chance of her getting pregnant? Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Obinna Ugwuoke

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There are quite a number of factors that determine if pregnancy will occur or not. Following are a few of them:

1. Sex must be vaginal, penetrative, and ejaculatory sexual intercourse, and not just semen falling around the vagina. Inside the vagina is the right place to ejaculate to optimize both the quantity and survivability of the sperm cells. Where the semen falls on your partner will not optimize the quantity and survivability of the sperm cells. Therefore, there is no chance of becoming pregnant.

2. The sex should occur at or around her ovulation period. Immediately after the period, ovulation is far away in most ladies. Therefore, there is no chance of getting pregnant.

3. Emergency contraceptives (ECP) are effective at preventing pregnancy if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse. Your girlfriend took ECP within 30 minutes. Therefore, there is no chance of her getting pregnant.

For the above three reasons, there is no chance of her getting pregnant.

I hope this answers your query.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

The private parts were very close to each other. Would this impact?

Answered by Dr. Obinna Ugwuoke

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your query and concern.

It will not impact provided, the penis is not inside the vagina. Additionally, the timing of the foreplay (just after the period is far from her ovulation period) and also the emergency contraceptive pills taken within 30 minutes. With these factors, there are no chances of becoming pregnant.

Revert in case of queries.

Hi doctor,

Thank you

The ECP was taken within 30 hours, not 30 minutes.

Answered by Dr. Obinna Ugwuoke

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your query.

30 hours is still within the 72-hour window for taking ECP. So, chances are still not possible. There are multiple factors in your case that ruled out the possibility of pregnancy.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks again.

Fingering was involved after the semen discharge, but it happened after wiping it off.

Answered by Dr. Obinna Ugwuoke

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your query and concern.

Fingers were cleaned off. That would have removed any sperm cells, to the least. An ejaculate contains over 30 million sperm cells. That quantity needs to be optimized for pregnancy to occur. That is why ejaculating inside the vagina is necessary to increase the chance of pregnancy. If your fingers were cleaned off before fingering, the sperm cells on it would have been taken off. Pregnancy is not as easy as most people think. Individuals with a sperm count of 5 million or less find it difficult to get a woman pregnant (all other factors being favorable). So, cleaning off fingers and fingering has no chance of getting your partner pregnant.
