Patient's Query

Hello,

I have been taking Yaz birth control pills for the past two years. Today, I noticed some brown discharge, and I am due for my withdrawal bleeding this month. However, upon checking again, the discharge was clear, and there were no other symptoms such as smell or cramping. I am wondering if this is a normal occurrence while taking birth control pills or if there is a possibility that I could be pregnant, even though I always use condoms during intercourse.

Thanking you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. There is nothing to worry about if you have been taking the pills punctually without missing even a day and not vomiting the pill within an hour of consuming it.

These hormone pills stop the normal flow of hormones from ovaries, thereby stopping ovulation. Yaz is a very effective contraception that does not fail unless the criteria mentioned earlier are unmet.

You may be having a small ulcer on the cervix (not to worry about - any sexually active lady will have it) that could have bled when you had sex. It is old blood, so it was brown in color.

As the discharge is clear now, there is nothing to worry about. However, if the discharge persists or is yellow-colored, foul-smelling, or with itching, this would indicate an infection in the cervix and vagina, which will need a consultation with a gynecologist and medications.

Be punctual with the pills, and pregnancy chances are almost zero.

I hope I have cleared your query.

All the best.

Kind regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
