Why does my period never come on time?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

From the last six months, I am getting my periods either five days before my due date or two days later than the due date. I want to know, is it normal to experience this time interval in periods?

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

Yes, this is normal. Seven days plus or minus is considered as a normal menses cycle. It means any cycle length between 21 to 35 days is normal.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I used to get small blisters over my oral lips. It occurs on the lining of the lips. Very tiny and minute blisters all over lips. It happens whenever I get my period. What can be the cause and treatment?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

Thanks for asking again.

There is nothing that can cause such blisters over the lips before menses. It could be generalized acne on the face due to hormonal changes before acne. I suggest medicine that is used for all symptoms associated with the premenstrual period. Take tablet Primosa 500 milligrams once daily for one month. Kindly consult your doctor to discuss the suggestion and take the treatment with concern.

Patient's Query

Thank you for reply doctor,

I hope this will help. I generally do not have any problems prior menses but in the last three to four times I use to get these rashes type of tiny blisters all over my oral lips, and it vanishes almost after a week or 10 days. I hope this tablet will help and does not cause any other side effects.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

This tablet does not cause any side effects as such. Generally, if anythingappears before and vanish after menses, the treatment is advised only if it is bothering you. I hope you have not changed any cosmetics or face wash or anything which cause allergy. Sometimes waxing over lips also cause such problems. Kindly think of these issues as well. I mean try to correlate, if you do not have such things then take medication which I suggested.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Nothing as such. And as I told you, it has started before three to four months only. Before that, it was not the case. But now this thing re-occurs almost every month. It may be cold sore, or fever blisters type but very minute and go away after 10 days. If you say, I will take this medicine for one month. I hope this will help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

Thanks for asking again.

Try this for one month. If your problem remains as such, then I would prescribe you OCP's (oral contraceptive pills) for three to six months. Do not worry. Everything will be fine.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

What is OCPs?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

Thanks for asking again.

This kind of problem occurs with corpus luteal defects. This is improper secretion of hormones. You do not need to be worried about it. In case you are planning pregnancy then some medicines are given in second half of periods. Otherwise leave it. It is normal.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I was very much worried about this manner of spotting before periods. I get clots in my periods at times. Not that big but yes clots are discharged for first two days along with blood. So, what about that is it also normal?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

Thanks for asking again.

That is also fine. Do not worry. If you think bleeding is excess just do blood test for hemoglobin.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I also consulted with you before. This was regarding my problem of spotting for two to three days before bleeding starts during menses. My period starts almost seven to eight days before the due date. Is it normal? I still have the same manner of bleeding and menstrual cycle. Also, you asked me to get reports done for hemoglobin. I got thyroid stimulating hormone, creatine, total blood count, and sgot or sgpt. Please check the report and advise if everything is in the normal range.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

Thanks for asking again.

I have seen your reports and read your queries as well. You have hormonal disturbance. Your cycles are short. You require hormonal treatment for same. But without proper video consultation I am unable to prescribe medicine to you. kindly request for a video consultation after 6pm today. So I will send you proper prescription.

Regards.
