Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 68-year-old father was recently informed that his prostate cancer may have spread to other areas, possibly his bones or liver. We're currently waiting on scan results to confirm this, but I'm trying to understand what this could mean for his overall prognosis.
If the cancer has metastasized, how does that affect treatment options? Are there still effective ways to slow down or manage the disease at this stage? He's otherwise been in good health, so we're holding on to hope while also preparing ourselves for what's ahead.
As we get ready for the next appointment, what important questions should we ask the oncologist to better understand his condition and the road ahead? Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
If your dad’s prostate cancer (a type of cancer that begins in the prostate gland, which produces seminal fluid) has possibly spread to other areas like the bones or liver, that can understandably be scary to hear. While this does make the situation more complex, it doesn’t mean it’s untreatable, or that you should lose hope. Common treatment options include:
At your next oncology visit, consider asking:
The fact that your dad has been in good overall health is definitely in his favor. It can help him respond better to treatment. This is a challenging time, but staying informed and asking the right questions will help you feel more in control as you move forward together.
I hope this helps.

Thank you.
