Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am turning 40-year-old in a few days. For the past two months, I have been experiencing symptoms such as gas and a burning sensation. Three weeks ago, I noticed some black specks in my stool but could not determine if it was blood, so I decided to visit a gastro clinic. The doctor conducted a series of tests including endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, blood tests, and stool tests. All of the results came back normal. However, during the abdominal ultrasound, there was an observation regarding the prostate. The prostate was found to be normal in size and echotexture, but a tiny cyst measuring 3 mm x 2 mm was detected in the midline. No free fluid was noted. The overall impression is that there are no abnormalities in the abdomen, but there is a tiny midline prostate cyst in the pelvis. I would like to know what can be done about this observation of a prostate cyst. Kindly provide your insight.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. I would like to inform you that the prostatic cyst is a fluid-filled sac in the prostate that is typically benign and present since birth but becomes detectable in adulthood. There is no need to worry about it. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I want to know that do I need to monitor the growth of the cyst, or can I safely disregard it unless I experience any symptoms. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. You can undergo an annual ultrasound for two or three years to monitor any changes in size. After that, you can adjust the frequency as necessary, particularly if any symptoms arise. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I would also like to inquire if there is any possibility of this cyst becoming cancerous? Kindly provide your insight.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. The chances of the cyst becoming malignant are very slim. Even if it were to increase in size as a non-malignant cyst, it would likely cause symptoms early on due to its location. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have underwent a follow-up ultrasound of the pelvis at a different facility. I am attaching the results for your reference. Please review my previous ultrasound report. The cyst, which previously measured 3mm x 2mm, is now identified as a simple prostate cyst measuring 8mm x 8mm. Should I consider this resolved and move on, or should I continue to monitor it? Kindly suggest.

Hello doctor,

I read your query and understood your concern. Sonography results can be subject to observer-to-observer errors, and minor variations in size are acceptable, particularly for small lesions like the prostate cyst in question. Therefore, there is no need to worry. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thanks doctor for the reply,

Can I discontinue monitoring this cyst and simply ignore it? Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

Yes, you can choose to ignore the cyst. However, if you experience any symptoms or if it continues to concern you, you have the option to undergo annual sonography for a few years to monitor it further. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you for the reply doctor,

So, in other words, I can ignore it and not worry about it, but take action if I have symptoms.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can safely ignore the cyst and not worry about it. However, I suggest you take action and seek medical attention if you experience any symptoms related to the cyst. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
