Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had protected sex with a girl without ejaculation. Then she took the condom off me, put her fingers in it, and inserted them into my anus. That is, with the used condom. I am not sure if she turned it inside out before inserting it into me.
What is the risk of HIV?
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The risk of acquisition of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) in the above scenario would be considered extremely low to negligible.
The rationale for it is that it was initially protected vaginal sex with the condom. There was no ejaculation. Then the used condom was inserted with the possibility of contact with the condom contents.
Since HIV does not survive outside the body, the transmission of HIV via fingers is extremely unlikely. The issue about the possible inversion of a condom still carries a very low risk.
Even if inverted, without ejaculation, the chances of transmission of viable HIV are negligible and non-existent.
There needs to be direct sexual contact or direct access to blood for HIV to be transmitted. As far as fingering is concerned, even if that wax is smeared with fluid, it is not a recognizable mode of HIV transmission, unless there are active ulcers or an open wound.
HIV dies on surfaces or in the air, including on fingers. Although there was a negligible risk of transmission of HIV, I suggest that you get tested for HIV to know the baseline HIV status, and if the result is negative, get a confirmatory HIV antibody test three months after the last exposure.
Hope my answer helps you, but if you have any doubts, please get tested for HIV and other STIs (sexually transmitted infections).
Kindly revert if there is any doubt.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thanks for the fast response.
I want to clarify some facts to be considered.
The condom was in her body (vagina), then she used it as a 'glove' for her fingers and inserted them (covered with the used condom) into my anus.
I am worried about the fluids on the outside of the condom that came into contact with my rectum.
Can you clear that up for me in terms of HIV risk?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
As explained in my reply, the risk would be negligible. Also, getting an HIV test as per the recommendations would help relieve the stress.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
