Can psychosis medicines cause long sleep and muffled speech?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been diagnosed with acute psychosis and have been taking medication for two years due to relapse. But I have a problem that I want to wake up earlier and sleep for 8 hours instead of 11. This seems impossible because I get relapses when I sleep less than 11 hours for a long period of time. The other thing is that I sound muffled when I talk. When I hear myself I sound clear but people cannot hear me. I also have chronic acid reflux and my current medications are Risperidone 4mg and Omeprazole 20mg.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You can ask your doctor to adjust the dose of your current medication which can help you to deal with over-sedation. You need to sleep only for 8 hours. You will be fine if your Risperidone dose adjusts from 4 mg to 3 mg.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you want some help.

Thank you and take care.
