How to manage a receding hairline in men?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I seem to have a receding hairline, and I wondered whether I should start Minoxidil. Does this look like something that might progress further, or is it simply a mature hairline? I want advice on a potential receding hairline and whether I should start any treatment, or if it is just my natural hairline. I am taking a Budesonide inhaler for asthma and a Fluticasone nasal spray for rhinitis.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

It appears to be male pattern hair loss, grade 2. Adopt a good hair care routine.

I suggest you follow these instructions:

  1. Apply Minoxidil 5 percent solution, 1 ml, once daily in the morning and evening for six months.

  2. Use a good shampoo twice weekly while on Minoxidil.

  3. Take Tablet Androanagen once a day after dinner for two months.

  4. Eliminate stress.

  5. Relax and make yourself stress-free, as stress is a major contributing factor in hair loss.

  6. Eat a diet rich in biotin, protein, iron, zinc, and vitamins.

  7. Drink a glass of carrot juice.

  8. Apply onion juice extract or hibiscus extract as a home remedy to the scalp in areas with hair loss.

  9. Apply topical Spirinolactone once at night after three weeks.

  10. Apply a good hair growth serum twice daily for three months (an alternative to Minoxidil).

Other options are as follows:

  1. Low-level laser therapy is another treatment option.

  2. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or Mesotherapy is also available, where platelet-rich plasma with growth factor concentrate will be injected into the areas of hair loss or receding hairline. It may require four to five sessions of PRP therapy.

The cause of hair loss could be genetic, hormonal, stress-induced, nutritional deficiency, autoimmune disorder, or drug-induced. I suggest you undergo vitamin B12, vitamin D3, serum ferritin levels, and thyroid profile tests to rule out possible causes.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

In your experience and knowledge, does this always progress further beyond stage 2? I will start the Minoxidil and consider the shampoo you recommend.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

It will take time to progress in the future. It may slowly progress to grade 3 androgenetic alopecia. Hereditary factors and genetics play a role in progression. If it runs in the family, there are high chances of progression.

I hope that this answers your query.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
