Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 22-year-old female and had a retinal hemorrhage two months back. To figure out the cause, I had some bloodwork done. I took the following tests- homocysteine, CBC, ANA, protein S panel, PT/INR, factor V Leiden/ prothrombin, basic metabolic panel, and rheumatoid factor. Most of them were normal. Recently as I was going through my medical history, I noticed that over the past year, my blood pressure has been rising slowly. Five days before the hemorrhage it was 135/87 mmHg. In my blood test reports, the homocysteine level was a bit abnormal. It was 17.5 mcmol/L and the reference range was between 0 to 14.5. I had read that it could be related to blood pressure. A few other test reports were also slightly abnormal, but nothing was discussed with me. Should I be worried about hypertension? I know that it can cause retinal hemorrhages, but I do not have any other symptoms. My dad also has it and when he was around my age he had a severe heart attack due to it. I am getting anxious. Currently, I am taking IUD (Kyleena).
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com
I read your query and understand your concern.
By your history and description, the possibility of stress and anxiety-related symptoms is more likely. So avoid stress and tension. Be relaxed and calm. Take a combination of propranolol and flunarizine once a day before going to sleep.
Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.
I hope this has helped you.
Thank you.
