Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I would want to inquire about an eye condition that a member of my family is experiencing. She is middle-aged and has an eye problem. She cannot see appropriately because her eyesight has weakened. Could you prescribe the details if I attach the laboratory results?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

After reviewing the report (attachment removed to protect patient's identity), I understood that the doctor had diagnosed posterior subcapsular cataract and retinitis pigmentosa. Cataract surgery is required for posterior subcapsular cataracts. In this situation, spectacles play no function. Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited eye condition. Symptoms include difficulty seeing at night and a reduction in peripheral vision. The onset of symptoms is usually slow and begins in childhood. There is currently no treatment for retinitis pigmentosa. However, vitamins can help to slow disease development. Newer developing therapeutic approaches include vitamin A supplementation, gene therapy, and retinal transplant. Screening of other family members is essential since it is a genetic disease.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
