Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 30-year-old female without a history of fever or other illness. Before three months, I was blessed with a baby girl. it was a normal delivery. After three days of delivery, I got sudden breathlessness. My echocardiography reports showed it as RHD with moderate MS and mild MR. PML mobility was restricted with AML doping. There was mild TR or PH. The doctor advised me to take Pentids 400 two tablets two times a day, Prolomet XL 25 half a tablet in the afternoon, and Fruselac DS one tablet in the morning. After that, I do not have any other symptoms. It is very shocking to know that I have RHD as I was very active even during pregnancy. I have some questions to ask you. Can I do my household activities? Is it necessary to do valve repair if I do not plan to have the next child? What is the diet to be taken? What is the usual life expectancy of RHD patients? How long should I need to take the medicine?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your medicines are fine. Instead of taking Pentids (Penicillin G) twice a day, you can take an injection of Benzathine penicillin 1.2 million units intramuscularly every month. Yes, you can do all the household works. If you want to become pregnant, it is good to have valve intervention before having a pregnancy. In case if you do not want another pregnancy, then there is no need to have valve intervention if the valve area is more than 1.5 centimeter square. If the mitral valve area is less than 1.5 centimeter square, then intervention is needed. The intervention options are balloon dilatation of valve or valve replacement. You can take all diets. Overall, I recommend you take a Mediterranean diet. If the problem is not severe and if the intervention has done timely, then the life expectancy is normal. Penicillin should be taken for at least ten years or preferably lifelong.
