Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 38-year-old male and have had rheumatoid arthritis for the past year. How often should I consult my rheumatologist?
I cannot afford frequent doctor consultations, but I am hoping to start Methotrexate. Currently, I am taking Naproxen and receiving cortisone injections in my knee. Although the swelling has not significantly reduced, I can walk somewhat. I still experience joint pain and a sensation of a lump in my feet.
I am following a special diet, and my ESR, CRP, and high rheumatoid factor have improved. I would like to change my medication after consulting with my doctor. How frequently should I see him for ongoing management?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I can provide some general recommendations. Typically, patients with rheumatoid arthritis (a chronic autoimmune disorder causing inflammation and pain in the joints)should see a rheumatologist every one to three months, especially after starting new disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) like Methotrexate. Since you mentioned persistent symptoms and the desire to change your medication, it is advisable to see your rheumatologist sooner rather than waiting a long time.
If you are concerned about the cost of a particular procedure, you can inform the administrator at your doctor's office about your financial limitations. They may suggest alternatives, such as telehealth services or programs for individuals in need. You could also explore additional support or community health programs that might be helpful.
Ultimately, routine check-ups will be necessary to adequately control the disease.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please, let me know if you want some help.
Thank you.
