Can rubella and CMV infections be passed to the fetus?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife is IgG rubella and CMV positive, and she has been carrying for seven months. Will there be any problem for the baby or the mother during pregnancy or after pregnancy?

Answered by Dr. Archana. G.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and will try to help you resolve your problems.

Rubella and CMV (cytomegalovirus) infections are dangerous during pregnancy. I suggest she get it treated with antibiotics because the chances of fetal transmission of severe forms are high. Kindly start antibiotics with an obstetrics doctor's prescription and get it treated fully.

Feel free to ask any questions if you have any doubts again.

I hope this information helps you sort out your problems.

Kind regards.
