What are the causes of runny and stuffy nose at the same time?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello,

This is a strange condition. My nose is runny, but it is stuffy when I try to pull in the fluid. Why is it so? I have not had any flu symptoms apart from this. It is pissing me off. I cannot bow down to do some work. It is embarrassing to go in public. Prescribe me some nose drops to get rid of this.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You can use an oral antihistamine once daily to stop a runny nose. I suggest getting a CT (computed tomography) scan for the nose and sinuses to exclude any skull base defects leaking cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Thank you.
