Can Semaglutide help manage PCOD, T2D, and obesity?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 29 and currently dealing with PCOD, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. It has been a real struggle; my weight keeps increasing, my periods are irregular, and my blood sugar levels are unstable. I have heard that Semaglutide can help with both diabetes and weight loss, and I am wondering if it might also improve PCOD symptoms. I am not on insulin yet, just Metformin, but it has not been very effective for me. Is Semaglutide considered safe for long-term use in someone like me who is trying to manage both weight and hormonal imbalances? Also, would it affect fertility if I plan to try for a pregnancy next year?

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Since you have specifically inquired about oral Semaglutide (available in 3 mg, 7 mg, and 14 mg doses), it is recommended as a second-line treatment for type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it has shown benefits in promoting weight loss in overweight individuals with diabetes. However, there are some important considerations. Common side effects include gastrointestinal issues such as abdominal discomfort, nausea, reduced appetite, and vomiting. Another factor to consider is the relatively high cost of this medication.

Since you are currently only on Metformin (dosage not specified), there are several other treatment options that can be used alongside it to help better manage your blood glucose levels. It is also essential to closely review your diet and exercise routine.

As I do not have details like your height, weight, current dietary habits, or level of physical activity, it is difficult to provide more specific advice at this stage. Please share that information so I can assist you further. Also, kindly share your B12 and testosterone reports, and I will provide you with a prescription for the appropriate medication.

I hope this helps you.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Best regards.
