Is it safe to take Semaglutide with thyroid, BP, and Pregabalin?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was prescribed Semaglutide for diabetes, but I am already taking medication for my thyroid and blood pressure. Is it safe to take them all together? I am also on Pregabalin for nerve pain—could that interact with Semaglutide?

My blood sugar has been really high lately, so I am hoping this will help, but I am a bit nervous about the side effects. I have heard Semaglutide can cause nausea and lead to weight loss, but I am already on the thinner side, so I do not want to lose too much.

How long does it usually take to see improvements in blood sugar levels? And can Semaglutide affect thyroid function?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Taking Semaglutide alongside thyroid and blood pressure medications is generally safe, but it is important to watch for any potential interactions. While Pregabalin does not typically interact with Semaglutide, it is still best to check with your healthcare provider to ensure everything is working well together.

Semaglutide may cause nausea and weight loss, though the extent of weight loss varies from person to person. If you are already on the leaner side and worried about losing too much weight, your doctor may be able to adjust the dose or recommend strategies to manage this.

Blood sugar levels often start to improve within a few weeks of starting Semaglutide. It is effective for many people, but individual response times can vary. Although Semaglutide does not usually interfere with thyroid function, routine thyroid monitoring is advised, especially if you have a history of thyroid issues.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
