Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 24 years old, my weight is 121 pounds, and my height is 5 feet 3 inches. I am married. My health concern is that I got my previous period last month, and now I have my period again, which means it came 12 days earlier.
I am not taking any medication right now, and I do not have any known health issues.
Kindly guide me on this.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
That makes your cycle about 18 days long this time. This is most consistent with a short menstrual cycle, known as polymenorrhea, which means a cycle shorter than 21 days. One short cycle by itself is usually not dangerous. It can often occur due to stress, travel, or sleep changes, hormonal fluctuations, early ovulation, or sometimes a cycle in which ovulation did not occur properly. For a 24-year-old, occasional irregular cycles can happen even if you usually have regular periods.
An important question is whether the bleeding is similar to your normal period, with the same flow and pain, or if it is lighter spotting than usual. Sometimes mid-cycle spotting caused by ovulation or a hormonal shift can appear like an early period. You should consider seeing a doctor if this happens again next month, if the bleeding lasts more than seven to eight days, if you soak a pad every hour, if you experience severe pelvic pain, or if there is a possibility that you might be pregnant.
If you are sexually active and not using contraception, it is also reasonable to take a pregnancy test to rule out early pregnancy-related bleeding, even if it is unlikely. Based on what you have described, a single early period does not necessarily indicate a disease. It is usually due to a temporary hormonal imbalance.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
