Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old male, not very active. I weigh 240 lbs and have a resting heart rate of around 65 to 80 beats per minute. Every time I smoke weed, I feel my left shoulder and arm hurt. This started four months back, and I have been a Marijuana smoker for seven years. I have a generalized anxiety disorder, and when I smoke, I worry about having a heart attack as I know it speeds up my heart rate. Now I have been to the doctor multiple times with numerous EKGs, cardiac enzyme tests, and electrocardiograms while resting. All said it was fine, and so did the cardiologist, but I did not mention the weed aspect. Now my shoulder and arm hurt sometimes when I am not high, but increases when I am high. I know that it is very rare for weed to cause sudden heart attacks, and a lot of people over 50s use it, but I need some advice to make me feel better. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I assume you take weed to feel good and temporarily switch off, you are not achieving this physically and mentally. I feel it is counterproductive to take weed with the sort of anxiety that you have. You have to decide to drop one or the other. Tests-wise, you have been cleared multiple times, and hence I feel that there is little to worry about. I suggest you see a counselor who can help you control your urges, and the pain that you are experiencing may turn out to be psychosomatic. If that does not work, please mention your weed habit to your doctor, as it would be the right thing to do.

Hope this addressed your concern.

Thanks and regards.
