Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 25 years old, and I have been taking birth control pills for years. I stopped taking it the last year because my fiance and I are trying to conceive. I did not have my period this month. Am I pregnant, or is it a side effect of the birth control pills? I am also taking prenatal vitamins and thyroid tablets.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Birth control pills are hormones that prevent pregnancy. Once discontinued, it is difficult to predict how sooner or later someone will conceive. It depends on how regular your cycle was before starting the pill and the frequency of coitus. You did not mention whether you have hyper or hypothyroidism. I suggest you wait for two weeks or get a blood test done for hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). Please avoid drinking, smoking, and taking antibiotics or painkillers.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
