Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am still stuffy three weeks after the sinus lift. I also had COVID-19 right after.
Is it normal to have a lot of bright yellow snot?
Please help.
Thanks.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
A stuffy nose with discharge after three weeks of surgery is not usual. But since you had COVID-19, it may be a reason.
I suggest you inhale vapor or steam with Menthol two to three times daily. Please use nasal decongestant drops like Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline. Take antihistamines like Fexofenadine 120 mg (milligram) twice daily.
If there is no fever, you do not have to take antibiotics. Please send me the pictures of the X-rays you have and the details I asked for so that I can help you with a proper diagnosis and treatment plan and help you further. Please let me know if you need any help or advice.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thanks for the reply.
My implants were pulled because they were almost entirely out. I have a complete hybrid prosthesis that is 15 years old. It did sit on eight implants. My follow-up scan showed 12 mm of bone on each side. I do not have the CT.
My face has no heaviness a little pressure under my left eye. After my surgery, I tested positive for COVID-19. But I could not blow my nose because of surgery, when the thick yellow mucus started.
I am on Amoxicillin in case it turns into a sinus infection. I am getting headaches, but they are a lot better than they were. I have been using Flonase, and it helps drain it. He did permit me to blow my nose at this point lightly.
What is your recommendation on nose blowing after a sinus lift?
I want to hear your thoughts on sinus with new implants versus zygomatic implants.
Thanks.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
It is good that symptoms are improving. Since you did not mention it, I guess you do not have diabetes or any other diseases. Nose blowing and sneezing are prohibited for three to four weeks after sinus surgery. Your nasal drop is working well. Still, you can ask your doctor if you can take Menthol vapor or antihistamine.
Zygomatic implants are alternatives to maxillary implants when a large sinus has little bone available or the sinus lift has failed. It is a better option, but it needs a longer implant to be placed and a skilled hand during the procedure. Still, it passes through the sinus below the membrane and can develop sinusitis later. However, it provides better strength and longer implant life in the future.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
