Can sinus infections cause breathing difficulties?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been diagnosed with sinusitis and have been experiencing fever, headache, body aches, shivers, etc., since then. Since yesterday morning, I have been feeling a heaviness over my heart, as if it is not pumping adequately. Last night, when I tried to sleep, I found it very difficult to breathe through both my nose and mouth, feeling like my heart had to work extra hard just to keep up. Each time this happened, the sinus pressure in my head significantly increased, causing discomfort in my head, eyes, jaw, and ears. I barely managed to sleep after 3 am and woke up at 10 am, still experiencing the same sensations in my heart, breathing, and head.
I am an active 26-year-old male who has never experienced this heart issue before, but I have had sinus problems a few times in my life. I have been taking Azithromycin and Paracetamol for it.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Sometimes, sinus infections can lead to complications such as difficulty breathing and chest discomfort. However, the sensation of heaviness over your heart and difficulty breathing could also indicate signs of other serious conditions. While your heart rate seems normal, the combination of symptoms you are experiencing like sinus pressure, difficulty breathing, and heart-related sensations, requires medical investigation to rule out other conditions. Blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and heart rhythm should be checked. I strongly recommend seeking medical attention, especially if symptoms worsen.
I hope this helps.
Thank you for using icliniq, and have a nice day.
