What are the causes of a skin lump?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from significant anxiety lately. I recently visited the hospital due to a lump beneath the skin on my arm; however, the medical staff assured me that it was nothing serious, and my blood tests were satisfactory aside from a diagnosis of fatty liver disease. Today, I discovered a lump on my right lower rib cage and additional lumps on my right upper leg. Additionally, I am 20 years old, have herpes, and am diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am concerned about what these new lumps might indicate or if they are simply a manifestation of my anxiety.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You are currently on medication for diabetes and hypertension.

For herpes, your doctor may prescribe acyclovir, which is an effective treatment.

The size of the lesion has not been specified. If it is soft, it may resemble a benign lesion such as a lipoma. Following an examination, a fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) may be performed to determine the nature of the lesion.

For anxiety, practices such as yoga and meditation can be beneficial. Ensure you are getting adequate sleep. If necessary, your doctor may prescribe an anti-anxiety medication like alprazolam.

Please consult your physician for a thorough examination, keeping all of this in consideration.

I hope this information helps you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
