Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a rash on the back of my hand. It has been coming and going for years. But now, it gets spread on the rest of my hand. It was just like itchy bumps very close together. But now it is like a flat area.
I have dryness in my skin after swimming in a chlorinated pool. I am taking Lamotrigine currently.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
You seem to have a little sun reaction called "polymorphous light eruption.
Lamotrigine can make your skin sensitive to the sun. I suggest you apply a good physical sunscreen containing Zinc oxide and titanium oxide for at least 20 minutes before stepping out or entering the pool. Sunscreen is water-resistant, and it does not get washed off after contacting water.
You can use a Hydrocortisone cream twice a day for five to six days. It soothes your skin. It keeps the skin moisturized with repeated applications. Otherwise, your skin becomes dry, so keep applying it. If you have itchy skin, then you can take an antihistamine.
I hope it helps.
Thank you.
