What makes a person highly prone to burns and blisters on sun exposure?

Hello doctor,
I am a 55-year-old female. I develop a rash and small blisters whenever I go out in the sun. This issue started ten years ago. Is there any medication that will help prevent an allergic reaction to the sun?

I understand your concern and reviewed your pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Unfortunately, it seems you have developed severe sunburn. Sunburn is a clinical reaction due to the acute effects of ultraviolet radiation on the skin. In severe cases, swelling and blisters may occur. I suggest you to follow a few things mentioned below.
- Apply compresses soaked in normal saline or potassium permanganate (1: 10,000 dilution) to wash away serous discharge, crust, and debris and to help reduce oozing and inflammation.
- Systemic oral steroids also can be taken.
Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them and take medications with their consent.
