How do I manage my stress and social anxiety disorder?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am pretty sure I have social anxiety. I do not know how to explain what I feel, but basically, everywhere I go, I feel like people are judging me, and I am so self-conscious. I do not fit in anywhere. I do not have any friends because I cannot bring myself to start conversations. I feel like I cannot say anything right. I am afraid of not fitting in. So I stopped going to regular school. I do online school now. When going to school, I would get so stressed and anxious in the morning that I would feel sick. I knew if I went back to school this year, I would not be able to take it. I would stress about every little thing I would do there, like going to throw a piece of paper away or asking to go to the bathroom. I want to tell my family how I feel, but I do not know how. They do not know anything is wrong with me.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Symptoms like low mood, loss of energy, poor confidence, poor self-esteem, and anhedonia are symptoms of depression. I want to suggest you visit a psychiatrist for proper treatment. Counseling like CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) will be best at this stage. If symptoms persist, then medications should be added with counseling. These symptoms will recover in a week after taking medications like Escitalopram. Talk to your parents too. Keep your confidence and patience. You will be fine in a week.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
