Hello doctor,

How can I overcome my problem of coming up forward for something? The main problem faced by me is stage fear, and I do not know how to cure it. Please give me a solution for it.

Stage fear is quite common in your age group and among many adults as well. It can be managed by taking appropriate steps.

Do you have any generalized anxiety or social anxiety? It can contribute to stage fear and need to be addressed. You have already taken the first step in acknowledging the problem and trying to get the support.

Try to practice relaxation strategies regularly. Practice deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation exercises daily. You can also try yoga and meditation.

Try not to avoid social situations. Avoidance only leads to perpetuating your anxiety. Try to face anxious situations in a hierarchical manner. Start with the least anxiety-provoking situation and gradually work your way up as your confidence increases. For example, start talking to two or three people initially. When you are comfortable, try to address a small group. Then progress to talk to a bigger audience. Take your own time, but try to expand your comfort zone gradually.

If you are experiencing any significant anxiety symptoms, you can consult a psychiatrist for further assessment. Counseling and CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) can be helpful.
