How do I manage a severe sore throat with white spots?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female. I weigh 87 pounds and my height is four feet and ten inches. I have had a sore throat for a few days, and just a couple of days ago, I had white spots on one of my tonsils, then the next day they appeared on my other one.

I also have a 102-degree Fahrenheit fever, backaches, and stomach aches around the belly button area. I have throbbing headaches and chills. My tonsils are very red and hurt badly when I try to swallow.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your query, and here is my advice.

Your symptoms are suggestive of acute tonsillitis, like the infective condition of the posterior pharynx. For that, I suggest you take Cefixime, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. If congestion is more than short-term, then steroid courses can be prescribed.

A few remedies that can help you are:

  1. Do gargle with salt and warm water three times a day.
  2. Drink lots of water.
  3. Avoid excess spicy foods.
  4. Take one tablespoon of turmeric powder with milk daily.

Consult your specialist and take the medicine as he prescribed.

You can investigate with the following investigations.

  1. CBC (complete blood count).
  2. Throat swab culture.

I suggest you consult a physician for examination.

Thank you.
