Why is my sore throat not improving after medication?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a sore throat for the past four days and have taken some medication, but I still feel some irritation. I have no other symptoms such as cough or fever.

  1. What should I do now?

  2. Should I continue my medication?

My prescribed tablets are Throx 150 (Roxithromycin) and Omezide (Omeprazole). My SpO2 is 98 percent, and PR is 89/min.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

You have probably developed a throat infection. Throx 150 (Roxithromycin 150 mg) works well against respiratory infections.

I suggest completing a five-day course of Throx 150 mg. After that, you can stop it if your symptoms are gone. Minor throat irritation usually resolves naturally. Please follow the underlying instructions:

  1. You can do saltwater gargles with lukewarm water three to four times daily, as this may help reduce irritation and inflammation.

  2. Drink plenty of warm fluids.

  3. Avoid very cold foods or drinks, and try to avoid spicy or oily foods until your throat feels better. Resting your voice and staying hydrated can also support recovery.

Sometimes, the use of antibiotics can disturb gut flora and, over time, cause digestive issues. If that happens, you can take a course of Sporlac tablets (Lactic acid bacillus), one tablet twice daily for seven days.

If you develop a fever, worsening throat pain, difficulty swallowing, breathing difficulty, swollen neck glands, or symptoms lasting more than a week, you should consult an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist for further evaluation.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
