What is the reason for the orange-colored swelling in my throat?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Is this thing in my throat a throat papilloma or just the mucosa? They cut out one papilloma from the other side last year. Two months after these, things started to appear. I went to another ENT they found I had staphylococcus and streptococcus in my throat, but these orange things did not disappear. And whenever I have a cold or flu, they seem to become bigger.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Are these things painful while swallowing food or fluids?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. No, they hurt me only when my throat hurts (from a cold or the flu).

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Great, these orange patches are lymphoid tissue with retention cysts. There is nothing to do, and it is not dangerous at all. I suggest using a pharyngeal mouth wash daily. Regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

One other ENT in my country told me it was a papilloma and we needed to remove it, but I was unsure about the diagnosis. And one last question, will they disappear or will they even become bigger? Will it turn into cancer?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It can increase or decrease in size. It is so rare to transform into cancer. You need to follow up every three months for size, shape, and color changes. Regards.
