What causes swelling in the eye?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had eye swelling from the past four days, and since yesterday morning, the swelling has worsened. I have applied hot compresses on it, and I feel something inside in the corner. I had a similar condition last year, which was due to a bacterial infection. What is causing this? A stye, bacterial infection, or ingrown eyelash? Should I stop working outside from tomorrow? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

It could be stye (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) that has spread a bit owing to cellulitis. I would suggest the tablet Amoxclav (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) 625 mg thrice daily for five days. Tablet Diclofenac and Serratiopeptidase once daily for five days. Tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once before breakfast for five days. Vigamox (Moxifloxacin hydrochloride) eye drops six times a day for seven days. Polymyxin plus Chloramphenicol eye ointment at bedtime for five days. Take medicines after consulting a doctor and if not allergic to them.Thank you.
